VINEYARD & WINEMAKING

The Blue Lake vineyard is an established dry grown vineyard. It is situated on the south-west plains of the Mount Barker sub-region. Blue Lake vineyard consistently provides excellent growing conditions.

The 2023 growing season delivered ideal conditions for growing premium riesling in the Great Southern region. There was good rainfall over winter. Spring was reasonably dry and summer held slightly cooler temperatures which allowed for the ideal lemon and lime riesling flavours to develop while, importantly, the fruit retained a beautiful natural acidity which forms the backbone of this wine.

The primary focus of the winemaking process was to preserve the delicate flavours and aromas of the vineyard’s fruit. The fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed on 24 March 2023. The juice was cold settled and fermented at a temperature of 14°C. It was then left to rest until preparation for bottling in June 2023.

THE WINE

The colour is light and pristine, and the aromatics display powerful lemon and lime with enticing notes of honey and poached fruit. The palate is characterised by the acidic drive of the wine. A dry riesling, the wine displays intense lime and lemon blossom flavours with lively, flinty minerality (which will develop further with age). The wine has a crisp, tingling finish, with a lingering lemony acidity.
