2013 Singlefile Denmark Pinot Noir Chardonnay Pinot Meunier
VINEYARD & WINEMAKING
The 2013 vintage in the Great Southern saw early varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produce excellent wines. Low yields in a coolish summer allowed for great expression of fresh varietal notes, good flavour and fine acidity.
This sparkling wine is made with 60% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Meunier from the Mcleod vineyard in Denmark. Planted in 1995, it is one of the coolest and latest-ripening sites in Western Australia.
The grapes were hand harvested in February 2013 between 11° and 11.5° Baume. The fruit was cooled overnight and then underwent a gentle press of the whole bunches. The finest free run juice was retained which was then fermented in older French oak and stainless steel.
This 2013 sparkling wine spent 7 years on lees before being disgorged in mid-2020.
A beautifully poised, mature and complex style of Great Southern sparkling. It displays elegance with aromas of toast, brioche and honey, due to extended time on lees. This complexity flows through on the palate with an intriguing blend of flavours in the lemon curd, apricot and honey spectrum. A fine but persistent bead adds freshness to the mouthfeel. It finishes with a significant length of flavour, left long after the wine has gone.
