2018 Singlefile Small Batch Clonal Syrah
SMALL BATCH PROJECT: #5
VINEYARD & WINEMAKING
This wine is made from 100% Waldron clone shiraz (also known as heritage or mission clone originating from Hawkes Bay, NZ). The Waldron clone is known to be more delicate than the typical #470 clone found in Frankland River.
After picking and sorting on 11th April 2018, fermentation took place in open fermenters, and maceration was gentle lasting 20 days with minimal pump-overs. The wine was then aged in low toast French oak barriques for twelve months and aged in bottle prior to release. Made with minimum effective sulphites, it was not fined and only minimally filtered.
A bouquet of ground spices, black berries and spicy aromatics. Ripe but elegant flavours of black fruits and spice with oak playing a supporting role. Nice drying tannins with a very long finish. The tannins and flavours are poised to express themselves in the years to come.
