2014 Singlefile Single Vineyard Frankland River Clément V
VINEYARD & WINEMAKING
The continental cool climate sub-region of Frankland River sits within the north-west corner of the Great Southern wine region (latitude 34°39’S). This wine is a blend of the classic Rhone varieties of Shiraz (62%), Mataró (33%) (also known as Mourvèdre), and Grenache (5%).
The fruit was picked over a few days in the last week of March, sorted and cold soaked in small fermenters for twelve days, before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration, the varietal batches kept separate throughout. Thirty five percent of the wine was matured in new oak barriques, the balance went to one and two year old barriques for eleven months.
A medium bodied blend of Shiraz, Mataró and Grenache, this wine has bright, perfumed aromatics of red fruits and spice with a subtle savoury edge. The palate is plush, with a smoothly textured mouth feel with fine grained chewy tannins. Medium bodied and well suited to complement food.
