2025 Singlefile Great Southern Fiano

VINEYARD & WINEMAKING

Fiano is a white Italian grape variety that is grown primarily in the Campania region of southern Italy and on the island of Sicily. It has been introduced to the Great Southern region in more recent years and the 2025 growing season delivered ideal conditions for this variety. Spring and summer offered consistent temperatures with very little rain, encouraging full ripe fruit flavours before a slightly early harvest.

The fiano fruit was picked at dawn on 5 March 2025. The fruit was sorted and gently pressed. The juice underwent a long and slow cold fermentation in a stainless-steel tank immediately after pressing to preserve the natural fruit characters. When the wine had completed its fermentation, it was racked off its lees. The purpose of this approach is to maintain the subtle textures and crisp finish. The wine was prepared for bottling in September 2025.

THE WINE

A soft golden colour, this fiano has lifted aromas of bright lemon and orange pith, supported by delicate notes of spice and hazelnut. The citrus aromatics follow through on the palate, with fresh nashi pear, and hints of melon and ginger spice. The wine is enhanced with a softly textured, viscous mouth feel, with subtle savoury nutty flavours on the finish. This wine is well suited to complement seafood dishes, chicken and creamy pastas. It can be enjoyed now, or allow the wine to continue to develop in the bottle for up to 7 years.

We had the pleasure of drinking a bottle of the 2022 Great Southern Fiano recently and it went perfectly with Red Emperor fish. Not as heavy as a Chardonnay but much more body than the Sauvignon Blanc. It was a fruity, spicy wine that should benefit from a couple of years in the cellar.

I enjoyed this wine after a dry spell and it was worth the wait! Beautiful light fresh colour and subtle pleasant floral aroma. I enjoyed it with a tomato based dish with heavy garlic and spicy rice - on first sip it made my mouth water and I took a few more! It has a complex undertone to it but would suit a person partial to a Sauvignon Blanc. I would recommend this as a summer drop on a lazy evening.

This wine is the perfect wine for a summer evening with friends. Medium body which can appeal to those who enjoy either a lighter white wine or a heavier chardonnay. If you are looking for something to accompany seafood, this is your drop. We had this with creamy garlic prawns and it was absolutely spectacular.

WOW (yes, it's that good).

A beautiful light and crisp wine, with refreshing citrus notes. Very smooth and easy to drink.

This bottled was shared with friends on a warm summer evening and was the perfect finishing touch to our seafood dinner.

A new personal favourite that I can't wait to drink again.

A delicate fiano that is refreshing to drink, especially on a warm day. I paired it with lemon baked fish and it was perfect. Great value for a really interesting wine.

I shared the Fiano with friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! Fresh, Lively & Light. Easy drinking with floral & citrus notes. Medium bodied and the acidity was well balanced. Would go great with Fish, Asian & Thai food. A great drop!

I’m a big fan of this Italian grape variety and always interested to try new expressions. The 2024 Singlefile GS Fiano certainty did not disappoint! Fresh and lighter in style with good acidity, I found citrus and hint of spring blossom on the nose, which transferred to lemon and grapefruit on my palate. A wine well worthy of a summer evening with friends!
