2021 Singlefile Single Vineyard Frankland River Clément V
VINEYARD & WINEMAKING
The Southern Rhône region of Châteauneuf du Pape is one of the more significant wine regions of the world. Singlefile’s Clément V is our salute to the role this “Avignon Pope” played in establishing the viticulture and wine style of this iconic region.
This wine is a blend of the classic Châteauneuf du Pape varieties of syrah (Rhône clones 877 and 470 originally from Hermitage), mataro (also known as mourvèdre) and grenache. All three varieties are grown in the Riversdale Vineyard, Frankland River. The fruit was picked on 26th March and 8th April 2021, with varietal batches kept separate throughout. It was sorted and cold soaked separately in small fermenters for two days, before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration.
Approximately thirty percent of the wine was matured in new oak barriques, the balance going to two and three-year-old barriques for twelve months before the wine was blended, settled and prepared for bottling. The wine was then left to rest in bottle until ready for release.
A blend of mataro, shiraz and grenache, this wine has bright, perfumed aromatics of red berries, plum and spices with subtle savoury elements. The palate is plush, with a smoothly textured mouth feel and fine-grained chewy tannins. A medium bodied red wine that is well suited to be enjoyed with food.
