Description
The continental cool climate sub-region of Frankland River sits within the north west corner of the Great Southern wine region (its latitude 34°39’S). The Riversdale vineyard, planted in 1997 on deep gravel over clay soils, on a north-south orientation, is located 7 kilometeres north west of the Frankland River township.
The wine is 100% cabernet sauvignon (Houghton clones), the fruit picked and sorted on 22 April 2022. It was cold soaked in a small fermenter for three days with minimum pump overs before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration lasting for four weeks. Forty percent of the wine was matured in new Bordeaux oak barriques for thirteen months. The balance went to one-year-old (30%) and two-year-old (30%) Bordeaux barriques for the same period. The wine was bottle aged for at least thirty months before release.

Description
This wine displays powerful aromas of dark berries, bay leaf and tobacco, with cedar accents contributed by oak. Effortlessly mouth filling with flavours of juicy red fruit, blackberries and warming, earthy notes of spice and stony gravel. It is balanced with bright acidity and fine tannins which lead to a long, drying finish. Smooth and medium bodied, the wine has lovely palate weight and is well suited to red meat dishes, pizza or a roast leg of lamb with garlic and herbs. It will continue to develop earthy complexity with further time in bottle.

Description
Pouring a dense, deep red, the wine reveals complex aromas of inky mulberry and cassis, layered with notes of plum, dark cherry and a subtle hint of tobacco. On the palate, ripe, plush fruit flavours unfold alongside cedar nuances from oak, lifted by brighter accents of raspberry. These flavours are framed by pronounced dusty, savoury tannins, carrying through to a long, lingering finish. Well suited to red meat dishes such as roast leg of lamb, the wine also pairs beautifully with hearty pasta dishes and strong, hard cheeses. Enjoy decanted in its youth to fully reveal its character, or cellar with confidence.
