VINEYARD & WINEMAKING
The 2023 growing season in the Great Southern delivered stable temperatures and a cooler vintage, ideal for aromatic white wine varieties. This vermentino fruit comes from mature vines grown in the Mount Barker sub-region of the Great Southern, where the temperature is warmer during the day than in nearby Albany and Denmark, but with cool overnight temperatures, resulting in a light-bodied wine with refreshing acidity but well-developed varietal flavours.
The vermentino grapes were picked and left on their skins for eight hours before being pressed to a stainless-steel tank. A long slow, cold fermentation followed to preserve the delicate fruit characters. The wine was racked off its lees straight after fermentation to retain its subtle texture and floral notes. It was bottled in August 2023.
THE WINE
The wine displays summer florals, some green apple and subtle orange blossom characters. The mouth feel is textural with a soft, sea spray minerality, some savoury tones and good natural acidity. This wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif but shows its best with food and is well suited to complement seafood dishes.
