Easter 2026 in Denmark & the Great Southern
A guide to the Easter long weekend and April school holidays
Autumn in the Great Southern is something of a sweet spot. The summer crowds have slowed, and the days settle into a gentle rhythm — crisp mornings, warm afternoons, and cool evenings made for a glass of red wine.
If you’re planning a visit over the Easter long weekend or April school holidays, Denmark and its surrounds offer an easy balance of adventure, relaxation and discovery. Here’s our tips on making the most of it.
The Easter Arts Festival
Running from 3-19 April 2026, the Easter Arts Festival is a celebration of creativity meeting community.
Expect open studios, exhibitions, workshops, live performances and pop-up events throughout the region — an opportunity to connect with local artists and experience the creative pulse of the Great Southern. Review the full program of events for this year’s Festival here.

A long-standing local favourite
Explore the Coast: beaches worth lingering on
The coastline around Denmark is among the most beautiful in Western Australia, and April is an ideal time to explore it with calm, clear days with fewer winds and gentle sunshine. Here are a few of our favourite spots:
- Greens Pool – sheltered, turquoise waters framed by granite boulders, perfect for swimming and families
- Elephant Rocks – a short walk reveals giant granite formations resembling a herd of elephants wading into the sea
- Prawn Rock Channel – a quieter, local favourite great for families, with calm waters and no waves
Pack a picnic, take your time, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Great Southern coastline.

Autumn hikes & nature
With milder temperatures and plenty of fine weather lingering, autumn is one of the best times of year to explore the region on foot.
From coastal walks to forest trails, the Great Southern offers a range of options, whether it’s a gentle wander or something more adventurous. Expect golden light through the karri trees, fresh coastal air, and incredible views. Trails WA is a great resource to discover the walks on offer in the region.
A must-visit further afield is the Walpole-Nornalup National Park, about 40 minutes drive out of Denmark and home to the iconic Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk — an elevated walkway through the forest canopy that offers a completely different perspective of the towering tingle trees.
Family-friendly adventures
For those travelling with children (or simply young at heart), there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained:
- Denmark Thrills Adventure Park – home of the unique “globeriding” experience. Book ahead during school holidays to avoid missing out.
- Denmark Animal Farm & Pentland Alpaca Stud – a relaxed, hands-on farm experience where you can meet and feed alpacas and other friendly animals

Explore the Wineries of the Great Southern
No visit to Denmark is complete without exploring its vineyards. Autumn is a particularly special time in wine country, with vineyards beginning to shift colour and the energy of vintage in the air.
Cellar doors across the region welcome visitors throughout the Easter period. At Singlefile, we’ll be open daily from 11am-5pm across the long weekend and school holidays, with the exception of Good Friday. We look forward to welcoming you for a tasting, with plenty of room for your family and four-legged friends. Bring along a picnic and settle in for a relaxed afternoon.
A season to savour
Holidaying in the Great Southern is less about rushing from one activity to the next, and more about settling into a slower pace: morning swims, long lunches, afternoon walks and evenings shared over good wine.
Whether you’re here for a few days or a little longer, Denmark offers the space to slow down, reconnect and experience the region at its autumnal best.
