Vintage 2024 Wrap

As the landscapes of the Great Southern erupt in the vibrant colours of autumn, winemakers are now enjoying the conclusion of vintage 2024. With the final grapes harvested and fermentation underway, it's a time for reflection.

Weather Conditions

Unlike the past two long, cool seasons, vintage 2024 was characterised by a warmer growing season and warm and dry weather during harvest. While this meant there were no worrying rain events, it certainly put some pressure on our picking teams to keep up with the pace of Mother Nature! The warm weather resulted in earlier ripening and picking, with the benefit of no disease pressure and near absence of bird damage to fruit, and harvest was complete about three weeks ahead of normal timing.

Expectations for Vintage 2024

Stand out varieties this vintage include chardonnay, pinot noir and sauvignon blanc, as well as some outstanding cabernet sauvignon from Frankland River. Many chardonnay lovers may be happy to learn that we expect a bigger, richer style of chardonnay this year.

Reds this year ripened not far behind the white grapes, with the final picks being grenache and mataro from Frankland River. The hotter growing season will result in a higher skin-to-volume ratio in our red wines, meaning this year we expect slightly richer styles with intense colour and a good tannin profile.

“While each vintage is different and presents unique challenges, we are confident in the decisions we’ve made regarding site selection and varietal pairing, and in our vineyard management. Our winemaking team are experienced in working with our vineyards and are busy crafting quality Great Southern wine,” said Patrick Corbett, Managing Director and Co-founder of Singlefile Wines.

“We are particularly excited to see how this year’s Limited Release offerings shape up in tank and barrel, and have also secured a small parcel of a new variety this year, which looks fantastic and is destined for our Small Batch collection. We look forward to sharing more with you about our 2024 offerings as we prepare for bottling over the next few months.”
