2017 Vintage Update
It’s nearly crunch, or should we say, “crush” time at Singlefile. The 2017 harvest is just around the corner, with Denmark showing good development and steady ripening in response to the warmer temperatures. Most vineyards are expecting a later harvest this year, perhaps two or more weeks later than last year, which means late March or early April for Chardonnay in the Great Southern. 2016 climate and vintage update
The year 2016 was a challenging year in terms of the length of the wet season, which encroached on the ripening of the vines and meant plenty of proactive management was necessary, particularly in terms of prevention of bird damage. A late storm in January was unwelcome in most of the Great Southern. Fortunately the yield was up on 2015 and most vineyards could work around any bird damage or threat from botrytis and, like many other vineyards, Singlefile could breathe a sigh of relief once we had completed the harvest, around the normal date towards the end of March. What’s the difference between Pinot Gris vs Pinot Grigio?
Did you know Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape variety? It’s a white grape, with a grey-brownish pink skin (hence the name gris, or grey in English).
